This Japanese print reproduction highlights the Asama Shrine in Shizuoka, a work rich in contrasts and colors. The scene presents the complex architecture of a traditional building surrounded by large trees, while birds enliven a sky of changing hues. The use of vibrant orange for the shrine creates a dynamic focal point against the deep greens of the surrounding nature.

Hasui Kawase here exploits a bold chromatic palette to emphasize the majesty of the religious heritage. The work is part of a project documenting famous places in Japan, treated with an artistic sensibility that prioritizes visual emotion. This plate is a precise chromatic study illustrating the strength of the linework characteristic of the Shin-hanga movement.

Perfect for invigorating an interior with warm colors and historical iconography, this illustration is aimed at lovers of Japanese culture. It lends itself admirably to sober framing to highlight its contrasting nuances and documentary interest.
