This reproduction illustrates the Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto during a starry night scene in 1933. The work by Hasui Kawase captures a solitary figure under an umbrella, emphasizing the monumental architecture of the temple rising under a starry night sky.

The plate is distinguished by its exceptional management of light and shades of midnight blue and gray. As a study of architecture and nocturnal atmosphere, this print reflects the technical and poetic approach specific to the Shin-hanga movement of which Kawase was the master.

Ideal for a collection of historical or artistic images, this illustration brings a unique perspective on Kyoto's built heritage. It lends itself to detailed observation of traditional structures and the staging of daily Japanese life.
