Print of the Great Buddha of Kamakura by Hasui Kawase

This faithful reproduction presents a print by Hasui Kawase depicting the Great Buddha of Kamakura. The monumental figure dominates the composition, surrounded by spectators who emphasize the scale of the work and a majestic pine on the side. Shades of blue and green dominate this religious scene, offering a striking contrast with touches of pink and brown.

The original work is part of the ukiyo-e tradition modernized by the Shin-hanga current. Hasui Kawase, famous for his landscapes, explores here the spiritual and historical dimension of Japan. The hierarchy of elements, between the immutable stature of the statue and the ephemeral presence of visitors, reflects a profound editorial intention on the permanence of the sacred.

Intended for enthusiasts of Japanese culture, this illustration can be collected for its historical importance or used in decoration for its soothing character. It invites silent contemplation, proper to major religious sites, while constituting an object of visual study on the art of Japanese composition from the early last century.
