Print Reflection of Mount Fuji in Lake Kawaguchi - Hokusai

This ukiyo-e print reproduction depicts one of Katsushika Hokusai's most famous views: the inverted reflection of Mount Fuji in the waters of Lake Kawaguchi. Observed from the Misaka Pass, the landscape displays verdant hills and traditional dwellings on the shore. The iconographic particularity lies in the reflection of the mountain, whose appearance differs slightly from the real summit, creating a fascinating chromatic and visual study.

Published in the series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji between 1830 and 1832, this woodblock engraving illustrates Hokusai's visual modernity. The artist plays on symmetry and duality between reality and its reflected image, using a palette of blues and spring greens. This plate is considered a major piece for understanding the hierarchy of natural elements and the encyclopedic intention of the author's overall work.

This naturalist illustration suits Japanese art enthusiasts wishing to integrate a calm and structured scene into their collection. The precision of the line and the balance of the composition make it an ideal work for landscape study or thematic wall decoration. As a reproduction of a historical document, it offers a precious testimony on the representation of sacred nature in Edo-era Japan.
