Print The Watermill at Onden - Katsushika Hokusai

This antique poster reproduction illustrates a watermill at Onden, a rural scene captured by Katsushika Hokusai. The plate shows the mill wheel in action with figures busy with agricultural work in the foreground. Mount Fuji stands on the horizon, creating a contrast between the mechanical energy of human activity and the static permanence of the sacred mountain, a central theme in the artist's work.

Originally created around 1830 in the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series, this ukiyo-e print testifies to Hokusai's documentary precision. The technical drawing of the paddle wheel and the flow of water reveal a keen sense of naturalist observation. The composition, rich in daily details, is supported by a palette of blue and yellow tones that accentuates the clarity and graphic modernity of this polychrome woodblock engraving.

This reproduction of a historical plate is aimed at lovers of genre scenes and classic Japanese landscapes. It allows for the study of the link between artisanal technique and nature in traditional Japan. Its balanced aesthetics and documentary interest make it a choice piece to enrich a graphic art collection or to bring a note of factual serenity to a work or living environment.
