Reproduction of a sea pen plate (Pennatulida) by Ernst Haeckel

This reproduction of a naturalist engraving illustrates Pennatulida, better known as sea pens. True to Ernst Haeckel's aesthetic, this plate presents a precise morphological study in sepia, brown, and beige tones. The fineness of the lines emphasizes the feathery and delicate structure of these marine organisms, offering a vision that is both scientific and dreamlike of aquatic fauna, captured with exemplary encyclopedic rigor.

Taken from the monumental collection Kunstformen der Natur published between 1899 and 1904, this work bears witness to Haeckel's exceptional talent for illustration. By documenting anthozoans, the author managed to extract the natural geometry of corals, durably influencing the ornamental motifs of the Art Nouveau movement. This plate constitutes a historical milestone in the representation of natural sciences, combining biological exactitude and visual harmony.

Perfectly suited for interiors favoring a vintage and scholarly atmosphere, this sea pen illustration brings a touch of organic serenity. It lends itself ideally to wall staging, alone or accompanied by other plates from the collection, to recreate the spirit of the great 19th-century scientific expeditions. Its neutral palette and documentary value make it a choice piece for any lover of naturalist art.
