This reproduction presents a plate extracted from the album Samarkand by Émile-Allain Séguy, published around 1920. The illustration consists of stylized plant motifs where blue leaves organize in a repetitive rhythm against a deep burgundy background, emphasized by yellow highlights and elongated elements.

A master of Art Deco, Séguy explores an ornamental aesthetic here influenced by oriental arts. The geometric composition relies on rectangular frames with dotted outlines, creating a rigorous balance between organic forms and the graphic structure of the whole.

This iconographic document bears witness to the chromatic inventiveness of the interwar period. Its documentary precision and visual force allow one to appreciate the richness of the decorative repertoires intended at the time for the silk and wallpaper industries.
