Scientific plate of Sertulariidae by Ernst Haeckel

This reproduction of an antique lithograph highlights the Sertulariidae, a fascinating group of marine hydrozoans. The illustration accurately renders the delicate ramifications and repetitive structures of polyps, major characteristics of this cnidarian family. The visual rendering, dominated by shades of yellow and brown, emphasizes the morphological complexity of these often-overlooked organisms through a careful chromatic study.

The original plate belongs to Ernst Haeckel's monumental work, Kunstformen der Natur, published between 1899 and 1904. A naturalist and philosopher, Haeckel sought through these drawings to demonstrate the aesthetic unity of the biological world. His graphic style, marked by rigorous symmetry and remarkable line strength, exerted a decisive influence on the artistic movements of the late 19th century, notably Art Nouveau.

Designed for enthusiasts of marine biology and scientific art, this reproduction offers a historical vision of underwater exploration. It integrates perfectly into a collection of naturalist prints or as a refined decorative piece, inviting the contemplation of organic forms. This iconographic document constitutes a precious testimony to the encounter between documentary rigor and plastic elegance.
