Stemless Gentian Botanical Plate by Pierre-Joseph Redouté

This reproduction of a naturalistic plate illustrates the Stemless Gentian, accompanied by a lepidopteran. Taken from the collection "Choix des plus belles fleurs" published in 1827, the work highlights the precision of Pierre-Joseph Redouté's stroke. The composition focuses on the deep blue nuances of the flower and the delicate structure of its foliage.

Redouté's work is part of a scientific and aesthetic documentation approach specific to the 19th century. This lithograph bears witness to the technical excellence of the era, where every morphological detail is rendered with encyclopedic rigor. The iconographic analysis reveals a harmony between the floral subject and the entomological element, characteristic of classical naturalistic studies.

Intended for amateurs of natural history and botanical art, this illustration integrates perfectly into a collection or a sober decoration. It allows close observation of the genius of one of the greatest French botanical illustrators, offering a historical perspective on alpine flora.
