This plate is a reproduction of a Japanese print taken from the work Chō senshu. It depicts a flight of butterflies with simplified shapes, whose outlines come in a palette of gray, green, and burgundy. The fluid arrangement of the insects against the beige background evokes natural motion captured with great economy of means.

Published in 1903, this work by Kamisaka Sekka is part of the Rimpa school tradition, characterized by an advanced stylization of nature. Here, the artist favors flat areas of color and precision of line to transform a naturalist subject into a timeless decorative motif, representative of early 20th-century art in Japan.

Intended for enthusiasts of graphic art and naturalist motifs, this reproduction brings a note of documentary serenity. It can be observed for its compositional quality or used as a decorative element, recalling the importance of ornament collections in the history of Japanese publishing.
