This reproduction highlights a picturesque engraving by Edward Dodwell depicting the tomb of Hassan Baba. The composition is particularly careful: the white minaret of the sepulcher stands out amidst dark cypresses, creating a strong visual contrast. In the background, the majestic silhouette of Mount Olympus anchors the scene in an emblematic Greek landscape, at the entrance to the Vale of Tempe.
Taken from the Views in Greece collection, this plate illustrates the cultural wealth of early 19th-century Greece, where ancient remains and monuments from the Ottoman period stood side by side. Edward Dodwell's work captures scenes of contemporary life and more recent architecture, offering a complete panorama of the country.
This print will appeal to lovers of romantic art, enthusiasts of Ottoman history, and collectors of picturesque views. It is a delicate piece that evokes the charm of 19th-century travel writing. In decoration, it brings a touch of exoticism and serenity.
