This antique illustration reproduction shows the pagoda of Zōjō-ji Temple dominating the Akabane district. The plate, from Hiroshige's collection, highlights Japanese religious architecture and the course of the Akabanegawa River from an aerial perspective.

Created in 1857, the original artwork is distinguished by the use of vermilion red characteristic of Buddhist buildings. Utagawa Hiroshige here captures the cultural importance of Zōjō-ji Temple, a major pilgrimage site located on the Tōkaidō road, using flat areas of clean colors and a balanced composition.

Intended for lovers of traditional Japanese art, this print lends itself to a thematic collection on the monuments of Edo. It allows for a factual contemplation of the urban and religious landscapes of Edo-period Japan.
