Ukiyo-e plate Fuji under Mannen Bridge at Fukagawa - Hokusai

This Japanese print reproduction depicts Mount Fuji observed from the Fukagawa district, under the geometric arch of the Mannen Bridge. This naturalist plate stages fluvial activity on the Sumida River, where boats navigate between the massive piers of the architectural work. The snow-covered peak of the volcano stands out with precision on the horizon, offering a central vanishing point to the composition.

The original work, created by Katsushika Hokusai around 1830, belongs to the monumental series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. This work illustrates the mastery of Western perspective adapted to the ukiyo-e style, characteristic of the Edo period. The contrast between the rigid structure of the bridge and the organic silhouette of the mountain testifies to the strength of line and graphic modernity of the artist.

This antique illustration constitutes a top-tier landscape study for lovers of Japanese art and historical geography. It can be observed for the finesse of its documentary details or integrated into a collection of scientific engravings. This reproduction allows one to appreciate the hierarchy of visual elements and the topographical precision specific to 19th-century encyclopedic plates.
