Vintage Botanical Illustration Geranium (Pelargonium) by Redouté

This reproduction of an 1827 engraving illustrates the Pelargonium Daveyanum, a hybrid variety of geranium then highly prized in botanical gardens. The plate details the specific morphology of the plant, with particular attention paid to the coloration of the flowers and the cutting of the leaves. This illustration is taken from the collection Choix des plus belles fleurs, a true reference in 19th-century floral painting.

Pierre-Joseph Redouté documents here a specimen obtained in 1819, bearing witness to the boom in horticultural creations of the era. His scientific approach manifests through faithful chromatic rendering and a clear visual hierarchy of the plant elements. As a work by Redouté, this plate symbolizes the encounter between the rigor of naturalist study and the academic aesthetics that brought him worldwide renown.

This geranium plate is aimed at enthusiasts of botany and garden history. As a decoration object or collection piece, it offers a glimpse of French horticultural heritage and the art of enhanced lithography. Its utility value lies in its ability to evoke the charm of ancient greenhouses and the documentary precision of the past.
