Vintage Chamonix-Planpraz Funicular plate by Roger Broders

This reproduction of an antique poster, originally created by Roger Broders in 1928, illustrates the ascent of the funicular connecting Chamonix to the summit of Brévent. The design highlights the technical nature of cable transport against the immensity of the alpine massifs, with a composition centered on verticality and chromatic contrast. Cold tones of blue and violet dominate the snowy landscape, while the dark silhouette of the funicular rises above a pine forest.

Roger Broders, an emblematic illustrator for the Paris-Lyon-Mediterranean (P.L.M.) railway company, left his mark on the 1920s with his sleek and geometric style. This artwork is part of a context of mountain tourism expansion and the promotion of modern infrastructure. The artistic intent favors clean lines and elegant shapes to glorify the alpine destination and access to the summits.

As a historical and graphic document, this reproduction is well-suited for observing the visual codes of the early 20th century. It fits into spaces dedicated to travel history or thematic mountain decoration. Its value lies in the preservation of an advertising aesthetic that favored the contemplation of wide-open spaces and the promotion of period railway technical innovations.
