This faithful reproduction presents a naturalistic plate of a white camellia (Camellia japonica). The illustration highlights the delicacy of the immaculate petals contrasting with the deep green of the glossy leaves. The composition strives to restore the exact morphology of this floral variety with great academic rigor and a characteristic line strength.

Coming from the famous collection Choix des plus belles fleurs published in 1827, this artwork is signed Pierre-Joseph Redouté. Nicknamed the Raphael of flowers, the artist uses here the precision of lithography to capture the spirit of 19th-century ornamental horticulture, offering a chromatic study of great finesse.

This botanical print finds its place in a natural history collection or as a sober decorative element. It allows for the observation of scientific drawing precision while appreciating the timeless aesthetics of the master Redouté's classic floral studies.
