"Grandpa's Teahouse in Meguro" (original title: 目黒爺々が茶屋) is a woodblock print by the Japanese painter and illustrator Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) produced in April 1857.
The image shows a group of travelers taking a break at a resting point between two pine-covered hills along the road through the Meguro region, where, as the title suggests, there is a small teahouse. In the center, a wide valley opens up, once used as a falconry practice ground, reserved for the shogun. Meguro is now a district south of Tokyo. In the background, Mount Fuji rises behind other mountains emerging from the mist, while silhouettes of pine trees fill the entire left side of the sky. This landscape was highly valued by Japanese artists, as evidenced by a late 18th-century print by Shiba Kokan, using a Western perspective.
