Color lithograph: Approaching the fortress of Ibrim
Discover this impressive engraving of the approach to Ibrim Fortress, a majestic fortified building perched on the edge of a cliff, similar to the Muslim fortresses seen in Spain. Elevated two to three hundred feet above the Nile, this fortress, now ruined and deserted, offers a spectacular view of the arid desert sands and the surrounding desolate mountains. The architecture, with its square towers of hewn stone, reflects a bygone era of glory, while the building now lies silent and abandoned.
This engraving is not only a testament to ancient military architecture, but also a reflection of the historical importance of Ibrim, once a strategic post in the conflicts between the Romans and the Ethiopians. The detail of the scene with the Nile boats, illustrating the handling of the large sails, adds a lively and authentic touch to the image. Ideal for history and archaeology enthusiasts, this work will bring a touch of historical grandeur and exoticism to your space, while celebrating the fascinating past of this legendary fortress.
Reproduction of an engraving of a drawing by David Roberts (1796-1864) made during his three-month journey from Alexandria to the temple of Abu Simbel in Nubia, a journey of more than fifteen hundred kilometers.
His drawings were already the subject of considerable success during his lifetime, in particular those published between 1846 and 1849 in the form of three volumes, published in London by FG Moon and entitled Egypt and Nubia, made from the drawings and sketches made during this trip to the banks of the Nile during the winter of 1838-1839, and lithographed by Louis Haghe.
