Fucoideae are a diverse main group of algae that, due to their impressive size, far outweigh all other groups of aquatic plants. Their color is generally brown, sometimes tending toward coppery yellow and olive green, sometimes toward purple-brown and dark brown. All Fucoideae are marine inhabitants, with some species reaching over 300 meters in length.
