This reproduction illustrates an ichthyology plate featuring the Common Barracuda and the Red Mullet. Extracted from the Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle, this work emphasizes the distinct morphology of the two specimens, playing on the contrast between the slender shape of the first and the vivid hues of the second.

Directed by Charles d'Orbigny between 1841 and 1849, this collection of plates is considered one of the most accomplished iconographic achievements of the 19th century. The scientific approach is coupled with an artistic mastery of the line, making it possible to capture the diversity of the aquatic world with remarkable precision for the period.

Perfectly suited for sober interior decoration, this antique print invites the discovery of marine fauna. It constitutes a choice support for enthusiasts of marine biology or lovers of classical engravings wishing to integrate a touch of natural knowledge into their environment.
