"Kiyomizu Pavilion and Shinobazu no ike Pond in Ueno" (original title: 上野清水堂不忍ノ池) is a woodblock print by the Japanese painter and illustrator Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) produced in April 1856.
Another unusual perspective of the Kiyomizu-dō pavilion, located within the grounds of the Kan'ei-ji temple. From the pavilion, one can see the terrace amidst cherry blossoms, whose ephemeral beauty is greatly admired by the Japanese, as highlighted by the hanami festival. The terrace overlooks the Shinobazu no ike pond located in Ueno Park, whose water is colored a very soft blue. Opposite the cherry trees are several large pine trees, one of which stands out for its curious shape, which has led to its being called the "moon pine," and which appears in more detail on the following plate. The exaggerated proportions of the pine trees and the terrace may be due to the vertical format of this scene, which he had painted with more realism in Memories of Edo (Ehon Edo miyage).
