"Naitō Shinjuku to Yotsuya" (original title: 四ッ谷内藤新宿) is a woodblock print by the Japanese painter and illustrator Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) produced in November 1857.
In this print, the originality of the composition is emphasized by the use of horses' legs as a visual frame. The droppings on the ground, considered vulgar at the time, reinforce the realism of the scene. In the background, a bustling Shinjuku street, known for its prostitution, provides a striking contrast to the presence of the horses in the foreground. This bold depiction could be a subtle allusion to the famous quote about "flowers growing on horse dung in Yotsuya," from the book Master Kinkin's Splendid Dream (Kinkin-sensei eiga no yume, 1775), referring to Shinjuku prostitutes.
