"Benten Shrine at Inokashira no ike Pond" (original title: 井の頭の池弁天の社) is a woodblock print by the Japanese painter and illustrator Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) produced in April 1856.
This aerial perspective offers a panoramic view of the Inokashira no ike pond, an important starting point for the Kanda Aqueduct, which supplies water to the city. In the left foreground, an island houses the Benten Shrine, goddess of waters, already featured in other prints in the series. Founded in 1197 by Minamoto no Yoritomo, this shrine houses an important statue sculpted by Saicho Daishi, founder of the Tendai school of Buddhism. In the center, another island is surrounded by reeds, with a forest and a mountain emerging from the mist in the background. Herons fly above the pond, adding a touch of life to this depiction of the most distant site from the city of Edo in the entire series.
