"The Ferry at Haneda and Benten Shrine" (original title: はねたのわたし弁天の社) is a woodblock print by the Japanese painter and illustrator Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) produced in August 1856.
An unusual print presents the landscape framed by the silhouette of a rower, with only his legs and arms visible on the left. This design has been criticized, especially in the West, for its originality. Some consider it a sign of the artist's early senility, while others see it as proof of his extraordinary genius. The perspective places the viewer in the position of a boat passenger, with a piece of umbrella visible in the lower right corner. In the distance to the left is the shrine of Benten, a protective deity of the waters, while in the center stands a lighthouse. Although the shrine was demolished after World War II to build Tokyo International Airport, a sacred torii gate has been preserved.
