Japanese Poster In the tradition of the great 19th-century ukiyo-e masters - The Drum Bridge of Meguro and The Point of the Sun by Hiroshige

"The Drum Bridge at Meguro and the Point of the Sun" (original title: 目黒太鼓橋夕日の岡) is a woodblock print by the Japanese painter and illustrator Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) produced in April 1857.

This snowy landscape highlights the lower section of the Meguro Drum Bridge, an exceptional work of stone and wood. A taikobashi ("drum bridge") is a semicircular structure of Chinese origin which, with its reflection in the water, evokes the image of a drum, as shown in plate . This path leads to the Meguro temple, dedicated to Fudō Myōō, one of the five kings of esoteric knowledge. In the lower right corner stands the roof of the famous Shōgatsuya teahouse, renowned for its sweet bean soup (shiruko mochi). Several travelers protect themselves from the snow under umbrellas, hats, or even straw capes on the other side of the bridge. On the left, the Yūhi no oka ("Sunset Hill") offers a magnificent view of the Meguro Valley. From a chromatic point of view, the immaculate white of the snow contrasts with the Prussian blue of the Meguro-gawa River, while the sky is laden with snowflakes obtained by leaving the print paper blank.
