"Sanjūsangen-dō Hall in Fukagawa" (original title: 深川三十三間堂) is a woodblock print by the Japanese painter and illustrator Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) produced in August 1857.
The massive and impressive structure of the Sazai-dō Pavilion is a replica of Kyoto's Sanjūsangen-dō temple, renowned for its 1,001 Kannon statues. Built in 1642 in the Fukagawa district of Edo, the pavilion is 120 meters long, making it one of the largest structures in the city. In addition to its use as a place of worship, its length was also conducive to archery practice. Unfortunately, the building was destroyed in 1870 during the Meiji Buddhist persecution. The print shows only part of the structure, but its diagonal line runs through the scene, giving an impression of its massive dimensions. Pedestrians stroll on either side of the pavilion, bordered by the river where there is a depot of kiba wood, symbolized by planks floating on the water's surface.
