This reproduction presents the naturalistic plate entitled the Miraculous Draught of Fishes, taken from Gustave Doré's monumental work for the 1866 Holy Bible. The composition stages Jesus by the water's edge while fishermen pull out dense, fish-laden nets in a striking interplay of textures and contrasts. The graphic treatment emphasizes the tension of the bodies and the precision of the aquatic movement.

Gustave Doré's work on this book is emblematic of the 19th century, using wood engraving to achieve unprecedented dramatic intensity. This scene, extracted from the New Testament, testifies to the artist's mastery of chiaroscuro, where light seems to emanate from the center of the action to guide the eye through the complex details of the boat and the waves.

This antique illustration is intended for collectors of biblical engravings and amateurs of historical iconography. Its documentary character and polished aesthetics make it an ideal visual study object to enrich a sober interior decoration. It lends itself particularly well to detailed observation in a cabinet of curiosities or a reading space.
