Color lithograph: Portico of the temple of Kalabsha, Nubia
Give your space a touch of history with this breathtaking view of the Portico of the Temple of Kalabshe, a majestic site nestled among barren rocks and lush palm trees along the west bank of the Nile. This temple, dating back to the Ptolemaic period, is distinguished by its grandiose architecture and dramatic location, offering a striking contrast to the desert surroundings. The temple, whose ruins stretch majestically from the base of the hill to the river, evokes the artistic and architectural flourishes of the ancient Egyptians.
This work immerses you in ancient elegance with its imposing portico and majestic columns, even though only a few columns remain standing today. The refined details of the façade, bold cornices, and lotus-inspired motifs are testaments to Egyptian sophistication. The Temple of Kalabshe, with its fascinating history as a later Christian place of worship and its Greek and Roman inscriptions, is a compelling piece for any collection or decor. Perfect for those who appreciate historical narratives and ancient works of art, this depiction will bring a touch of timeless elegance and a mysterious atmosphere to your home.
Reproduction of an engraving of a drawing by David Roberts (1796-1864) made during his three-month journey from Alexandria to the temple of Abu Simbel in Nubia, a journey of more than fifteen hundred kilometers.
His drawings were already the subject of considerable success during his lifetime, in particular those published between 1846 and 1849 in the form of three volumes, published in London by FG Moon and entitled Egypt and Nubia, made from the drawings and sketches made during this trip to the banks of the Nile during the winter of 1838-1839, and lithographed by Louis Haghe.
