"The City in Bloom, the Tanabata Festival" (original title: 市中繁栄七夕祭) is a woodblock print by the Japanese painter and illustrator Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) produced in July 1857.
This print marks the beginning of the autumn series, although the Tanabata festival depicted is traditionally associated with warm summer days. The figures wear festive attire and stroll through the Minami Denma-chō district, with the Yayosu Fire Tower in the background. The lack of a personal allusion in the title of the location depicted is unique in the series. Further on, several buildings of the shogun's palace can be seen, as well as the majestic silhouette of Mount Fuji in the background. Banners and festival decorations flutter in the sky, perhaps an indication of the approach of autumn.
