Color lithograph: Ruins of Luxor, from the southwest
Explore the grandeur of the Temple of Luxor through this breathtaking view by David Roberts. This Scottish painter, renowned for his Middle Eastern watercolors, captures the majestic ruins of the temple from the southwest, with exceptional attention to architectural detail and the contrasts between ancient remains and modern structures.
The engraving reveals the majesty of Luxor's ruins, while highlighting contemporary aspects of the site, such as mosques and local dwellings. Roberts' expert eye for this historic monument allows us to appreciate both the site's past grandeur and its evolution. Perfect for history buffs, this book explores the fascinating continuity between Luxor's ancient splendor and its modern reality.
Reproduction of an engraving of a drawing by David Roberts (1796-1864) made during his three-month journey from Alexandria to the temple of Abu Simbel in Nubia, a journey of more than fifteen hundred kilometers.
His drawings were already the subject of considerable success during his lifetime, in particular those published between 1846 and 1849 in the form of three volumes, published in London by FG Moon and entitled Egypt and Nubia, made from the drawings and sketches made during this trip to the banks of the Nile during the winter of 1838-1839, and lithographed by Louis Haghe.
