Color lithograph: Ruins of the temple of Madamoud, near Thebes

Delve into the fascinating history of the ruins of the Temple of Medamout, located east of the Nile near Thebes. Although few remains remain, including part of the portico, this engraving reveals the delicacy of the columns decorated with the ovals of Ptolemy Euergetes II and Antoninus Pius, while revealing a granite stone attesting to its origin under Amunoph II, dating to the mid-15th century BCE.

The elegant capitals, adorned with blooming and budding lotuses, provide a fascinating architectural contrast and add a unique touch of beauty to these ruins. Although the temple is now surrounded by the remains of an ancient city and mud-brick houses, it remains a valuable testament to Egyptian architectural development. This engraving is ideal for archaeology and ancient history enthusiasts, bringing an elegant and historical touch to any space.

Reproduction of an engraving of a drawing by David Roberts (1796-1864) made during his three-month journey from Alexandria to the temple of Abu Simbel in Nubia, a journey of more than fifteen hundred kilometers.

His drawings were already the subject of considerable success during his lifetime, in particular those published between 1846 and 1849 in the form of three volumes, published in London by FG Moon and entitled Egypt and Nubia, made from the drawings and sketches made during this trip to the banks of the Nile during the winter of 1838-1839, and lithographed by Louis Haghe.
