Color lithograph: Temple of Wadi Kardassy, Nubia

Admire the Temple of Wady Kardassy through this captivating reproduction inspired by the watercolors of David Roberts, the renowned Scottish painter who immortalized the wonders of ancient Egypt. Situated high on the west bank of the Nile, this unfinished hypsethral temple, dedicated to the Egyptian goddess Anthor, is distinguished by its elegant columns and picturesque architecture. With its six columns intricately adorned with composite capitals depicting the lotus, grapes, and ears of wheat, as well as heads of Isis, the temple evokes the grandeur of the Ptolemaic era.

Despite its partially ruined state, Roberts depicts the site with vivid intensity, highlighting the clarity of the stones and the dramatic impact of the sun on the ruins. The nearby Greek inscriptions, dedicated to the emperors Antoninus Pius, Marcus Aurelius, and Severus, add an additional historical dimension to this fascinating site. This work offers a unique insight into Egyptian antiquity, captured with Roberts's precision and artistic sensitivity.

Reproduction of an engraving of a drawing by David Roberts (1796-1864) made during his three-month journey from Alexandria to the temple of Abu Simbel in Nubia, a journey of more than fifteen hundred kilometers.

His drawings were already the subject of considerable success during his lifetime, in particular those published between 1846 and 1849 in the form of three volumes, published in London by FG Moon and entitled Egypt and Nubia, made from the drawings and sketches made during this trip to the banks of the Nile during the winter of 1838-1839, and lithographed by Louis Haghe.
