The Parthenon, seen from the Propylaea is an illustration from the collection Views in Greece from Drawings published by Edward Dodwell in 1821.

From the Propylaea, the view of the Parthenon is breathtaking. The majestic temple, with its sun-drenched columns, stands proudly on the Acropolis, symbolizing the grandeur and perfection of Athenian architecture. It is an eternal reminder of the golden age of ancient Greece.

The literal transcription of the notice accompanying this plate is reproduced below:

This view is taken from the summit of the northern wall of the Propylaea. It presents the most beautiful aspect of the Parthenon, whose western extremity and northern flank rise majestically. These venerable remains, which have survived so many centuries, offer proof of the triumph of Phidias and Ictinus over the ravages of time. The large house on the left is the best in the acropolis, and belongs to Assap-Aga, lieutenant of the Disdar.

The mountain in the distance is Mount Hymettus.

The Doric columns, which are seen immediately beyond the gates of the Propylaea, compose the hexastyle colonnade of this building. The wall which is between the spectator and the colonnade contains the five portals which led to the Parthenon; but all this part of the building is disfigured by the rubbish which has accumulated to the height of about eighteen feet above the original surface. This circumstance is the cause that it has not yet been possible to ascertain exactly the dimensions of the gates. The largest is about twenty-six feet six inches in height, and about fourteen in width at its base, but diminishing a little towards the top. There are only three gates out of the five which are visible above the surface of the ground; of the two smaller ones only the lintel remains above ground. The two gates to the right and left of the largest are twenty feet high, and the two smaller ones about twelve and a half feet. The lintel which covers the main or middle door is the largest mass of Pentelic marble found in all Greece. It is twenty-two and a half feet long, four feet thick, and three feet three inches wide. It must therefore weigh twenty-two tons, or forty-four thousand.

The section of column seen on the right belongs to the interior Ionic colonnade.

The figure, which is crouching and smoking, is the Disdar, or governor of the citadel. As we sometimes had our dinner brought to us at the acropolis, and dined among the ruins, the Disdar was generally in the habit of discovering the place of our retreat, and never missed the opportunity of enjoying the forbidden liquor, and drinking most of our wine. The figure seen entering the gate is another Turk of the garrison. This portrait manifests symptoms of astonishment at having surprised the Disdar in the act, drinking a goblet of wine, which the latter quickly withdrew from his lips at the approach of the other Turk, but not soon enough, however, to avoid being noticed.
