This reproduction of a Japanese woodblock print features the famous Horikiri Iris Garden. The foreground, treated with great botanical precision, presents purple irises rising toward an orange sky, while female silhouettes in the background add a human and social dimension to this floral landscape.

The original work by Utagawa Hiroshige dates from May 1857 and belongs to the corpus of the One Hundred Famous Views of Edo. It illustrates the species Iris kaempferi, whose aesthetic success later influenced Art Nouveau in Europe. The composition plays on color contrasts and the verticality of the plants to create a sense of immersion.

This naturalist illustration is a prime piece for the study of traditional Japanese horticulture and the art of ukiyo-e. It invites the contemplation of floral elegance and the serenity of Edo's public gardens, captured by one of the greatest masters of the genre.
