Ukiyo-e Poster In the tradition of the great 19th-century ukiyo-e masters - Hiroshige's The Original Fuji at Meguro

"The Original Fuji at Meguro" (original title: 目黒元不二) is a woodblock print by the Japanese painter and illustrator Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) made in April 1857.

This is a similar viewpoint to the previous print, but where Mount Fuji is seen from one side of one of its many replicas. This one is not the same as above, but another 12 m high erected in 1812 and which, like the previous one, is called the "original." The slope of the hill dominates the right side and bottom of the image, from which emerges a large pine tree whose branches fill the entire upper part. Behind this foreground appears a cherry orchard where a group of people are picnicking, while on the horizon stands the majestic volcano considered a god by the Japanese. This print has been incorrectly placed in the "spring" section since the cherry trees are not in bloom and are bearing autumnal foliage made of cinnabar. The sky is a subtle gradient of red, changing from white to yellow to a light blue that darkens in the upper part. Fuji, written in the title as 不二 (literally "not two"), is probably a pun on the doubling of the mountain.
