It is often referred to as Chamaerops fortunei , and it is very similar to the European Chamaerops . Trachycarpus fortunei and its Asian congener, Trachycarpus excelsus , are beautiful palms with a tall trunk, covered in almost felt-like fibers. Their flabelliform fronds are strap-like, linear, somewhat obtuse, and slightly bifid. They are grayish-green in both species, but the species dedicated to Fortune retains its leaves longer. It is the most vigorous and hardy. It is easily recognized by its longer and thicker petioles and the wider divisions of the leaf blade.
