Color lithograph: Temple of Wadi Dabod, Nubia
This engraving by David Roberts illustrates the Temple of Wady Dabod, located in Nubia, which appears to be the first major ruin encountered while ascending the Nile beyond Philae. Although this temple, dedicated to Isis, was erected under an Ethiopian monarch, it remains unfinished, as revealed by the exterior columns left unfinished and the hieroglyphs carved after their erection. The additions of Augustus and Tiberius, although left unfinished, testify to the historical importance of the site.
The temple consists of a four-columned portico with screens and access to central and side chambers, as well as upper spaces. The temple's aedicule is decorated with columns with lotus-shaped capitals and an entablature adorned with carvings depicting the Nile and other symbolic motifs. This carving will bring a touch of exoticism and historical grandeur to your space, ideal for those passionate about archaeology and ancient Egyptian history.
Reproduction of an engraving of a drawing by David Roberts (1796-1864) made during his three-month journey from Alexandria to the temple of Abu Simbel in Nubia, a journey of more than fifteen hundred kilometers.
His drawings were already the subject of considerable success during his lifetime, in particular those published between 1846 and 1849 in the form of three volumes, published in London by FG Moon and entitled Egypt and Nubia, made from the drawings and sketches made during this trip to the banks of the Nile during the winter of 1838-1839, and lithographed by Louis Haghe.
